Mexico: Canacem expecting slower cement growth
08 March 2007

During 2007, the cement industry in Mexico is likely to grow at a rate of 3%, well below last year’s 8% advance, according to the president of the Camara Nacional del Cemento (Canacem), Osmin Rendon Castillo. During 2006, national cement consumption totalled a volume of 35.6Mt (the aforesaid eight per cent growth over 2005); this was the fifth consecutive year in which advances have been posted but such improvement was made possible by exceptional circumstances (the electoral process, the booming economy and the strength of the relevant sectors). The Canacem members invested US$450m in Mexico last year to take this decade’s investment up to US$1.75bn.    Published under Cement News
