02 March 2007

The Moroccan cement industry has planned to invest 10 billion dirhams (US$1.18bn) for the period 2006-2010 to keep pace with the "extraordinary development" in the construction sector, according to a statement issued on Thursday by Morocco’s professional association of cement manufacturers. Following this investment, Moroccan cement industry is expected to register an additional production of 5.5Mt, which will push the production to 18Mt and thus meet a national consumption of approximately 15.5Mt by the year 2010, according to the statement.

The national consumption of cement overshot the 10Mt mark in 2005 to achieve 11.3Mt in 2006.
