Peru domestic cement sales up 16.2 per cent YoY Jan-Nov 2006
22 December 2006

Peruvian domestic cement sales totalled 4.61Mt for the period from January to November 2006, up 16.2 per cent YoY, according to data of the country’s association of cement producers Asocem, as reported on December 21, 2006.

The domestic cement sales were driven up by the higher number of public and private construction projects announced in the country, including the state’s housing programmes Mivivienda and Techo Propio, and some motorway projects as Interoceanica Sur and Interoceanica Norte, as well as the road infrastructure programme Costa Sierra.

The sales are expected to maintain their upward trend until the end of the year and in the first months of 2007.

The regions with the highest cement demand for the period were Puno, Cusco and Arequipa, in southern Peru, and Piura, Tumbes and La Libertad in the north.

For the same period, the Peruvian cement exports totalled 643,824t, down 1.68 per cent YoY.
