01 December 2006

Cement producer PT Semen Andalas Indonesia (SAI), a company associated in Lafarge Group, has started operating a cement-packaging terminal with the monthly production capacity of 70,000t at Pelindo I port in Dumai.

"The new terminal is SAI’s solution to meet demands from Riau and its surroundings," said President Director of SAI Marcel Cobuz during the inaugration of the terminal recently.

The inauguration of the terminal, which is built with US$4.5m in investments, was made by Dumai Mayor Zulkifli AS and President Director of SAI Marcel Cobuz. Also witnessing the event were Vice Chairperson of Dumai Regional House of Representatives Ilyas Labai and officials in the City of Dumai.

According to Marcel, the terminal had been completed in October 2006 and was built in accord with Lafarge standard.

SAI assigned domestic experts to design the construction. "To keep up with the rapid progress in Riau and its surroundings, Lafarge decides to build an environment-friendly and modern cement-packaging terminal in Dumai," said Marcel.

Supported by five terminals, 400 employees, and the reconstruction of a cement factory with 1.6 million tons in monthly production capacity in Aceh, Lafarge is committed to develop its operation in Sumatra market.

The company, which is part of France-based Lafarge Group, also has terminals in Belawan, Batam, Lhokseumawe, and Dumai.

In the meantime, Dumai Mayor Zulkifli A.S. said the City Government of Dumai was committed to make it easier for investors to make investments. "Next year, we are going to develop an integrated service office to provide services to investors."
