Oyak not to bid for Lafarge-Yibitas cement factories.
29 November 2006

Celal Caglar, head of Oyak cement group, said that Oyak would not bid for the cement companies to be sold by Lafarge-Yibitas. Caglar noted that the competition board is not likely to approve the acquisition of these factories by Oyak. Lafarge-Yibitas is a joint venture between Lafarge Group and Yibitas Holding and it plans to sell its factories.

On a related note, when the process of ending the partnership with Sabanci Group in Oysa Cimento is finalised, Oyak wants to keep Oysa’s Iskenderun cement factory, which is close to Oyak Group’s Isdemir, a steel & iron company, reported the daily Vatan. Oysa, a cement producer, has two factories; one in the town of Iskenderun and another one in the city of Nigde. If Oyak would not be able to add the Iskenderun factory to its portfolio, it plans to construct new cement plant in the premises of Isdemir, according to the daily.
