US$400m cement co to start operations in Saudi Najran

A cement company with a capital of SAR1.5bn (US$400m) is to start operations in Najran, southwestern Saudi Arabia, according to local press. The company will operate under the name Najran Cement. 
 
According to Najran Cement’s board chairman, Mohammed Aba al-Alaa, the company will launch a plant with a daily capacity of 6,300t by mid-2007. In 2008, a second production line is to be installed, adding 3200tpd of cement. 
 
The plant is being constructed by a local and a Chinese contractor. 
 
Najran Cement has already appointed Ahmad Zufail director general of the company. Zufail has a 13-year experience in the management of local sector company Yanbu Cement.
