Tororo Cement doubles capacity

Tororo Cement doubles capacity
14 November 2006

Tororo Cement has doubled its grinding capacity with the commissioning of a cement mill and storage silo with the latest technology.

The general manager, B.M Gagrani, said with the new technology, more than 1Mta can be ground.

Gagrani said due to power cuts, cheaper imports and inefficient transportation, the plant is operating at 40-50% capacity.

He said they are optimistic about the future of the industry and have installed a rotary packer  to ensure speedy,  accurate and quality packing and would install another one.

Tororo Cement produces its own clinker after commissioning a new kiln with a preheater, stacker reclaimer and raw mill with quality controls.

"We had some problems like the continued supply of kiln oil, limestone and electricity, but we have invested more than $5m (sh9.1b) in a coal firing system to try to resolve the fuel problem," Gagrani said.
