FLSmidth Awarded Contract for the Largest Clinker Production Line in Mexico and Latin America
25 October 2006

As a result of a proposal which demonstrated both sound technical solutions and depth of resources, CEMEX awarded a USD 35,900,000 contract to FLSmidth for their new kiln system at the Tepeaca, Mexico. Located at 2,300 m above sea level, this will be the largest single clinker production line in Mexico and Latin America with a capacity of 10,000 metric tons per day.

Founded in 1906, CEMEX S.A.B. DE C.V., has grown to a global building solutions company that provides high quality products and reliable service to customers and communities in more than 50 countries. The size and innovative technology of the new Tepeaca Plant will be a testament to the company’s success and an appropriate means to celebrate CEMEX´S 100 year anniversary.

FLSmidth attributes the success of this contract to its ability to act as a complete partner for the supply of engineering services, project management, and commissioning as well as all major machines for the pyro processing line such as:

•    ILC 5-stage preheater with low NOx and low CO calciner
•    3-support kiln with tangential suspension
•    Multi-Movable Cross-Bar Cooler

Featuring a kiln which will be one of the largest ever constructed in the world, the project demonstrates FLSmidth’s leadership and capability in designing large clinker production systems. The ILC preheater with low NOx and CO calciner will ensure that the strict environmental and efficiency demands are met.

With a strong local presence in the North America, FLSmidth was able to differentiate themselves from their possible competitors and continue their strong relationship with CEMEX throughout the discussions for this project. Furthermore, the resources of over 700 engineering and business professionals available at the US headquarters, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, will be supplemented by the Project Centers located in both Denmark and India in the worldwide execution of this contract.
