Colombia Cement sales at 5.23Mt Jan-Aug 2006
Colombian cement sales stood at 5.23Mt in the period from January to August 2006, up 4.4 per cent YoY, according to data of the Colombian institute of cement producers ICPC.
The figure showed an increase of 41.1 pct, compared to the same period of 2004.
In August 2006, a total 728,721 tonnes of cement were sold, close to the record 767,322 tonnes sold in June 1998. No information was available on the value of the sales.
The cement sales in Colombia were driven up by the high number of public and private projects announced and the expansion of companies, such as Compania de Cementos Argos. Cementos Argos is the fifth largest cement maker in Latin America. Its production is directed both to the domestic market and abroad.
