Kunda Tsement to launch new kiln line next spring, Estonia
26 September 2006

The Estonian cement producer Kunda Nordic Tsement intends to launch a third kiln line next spring expected to increase clinker output by a third.

"If at present we are producing about 700,000t of clinker annually, then with the new kiln line going into operation the annual output should increase to 1.1Mt," director for administration Arvo Vainlo said.

According to Vainlo, the third kiln line will cost 200m kroons (EUR 12.8m). Kunda Nordic Tsement finances the project from equity.

The environmental service of the Laane- Virumaa region where the cement plant is situated has initiated an evaluation of environmental impact in connection with the plant`s plan to put a third kiln line into operation.

"Although the line will be fully automated and equipped with an entirely new filter system, the environmental impact evaluation is necessary because the firm`s output will increase substantially," Vainlo explained.

Established in 1992, Kunda Nordic Tsement is now part of HeidelbergCement Group. The plant`s sales reached 556 million kroons last year and it exported 40 percent of the output.
