Cement companies find new export markets in Iraq

Cement companies find new export markets in Iraq
13 September 2006

Cement companies in China may find good business opportunities in Iraq due to Iraq’s high demand of building material for city reconstruction. Comparing to the relative slack cement market in China, exporting to Iraq for city reconstruction or to other overseas markets may present different ways out for many cement companies.

The high demand for cement has driven cement prices up to US$130 per ton in Iraq. The price of cement is expected to rise further as city reconstruction continues. It is reported by Wen Wei Po that a cement company in Lanxi, Zhejiang has exported 600,000 tons of No.425 high quality cement to Iraq. The export is expected to give the company good profit and entry to a new market.
