Thanh Hoa province sees cement growth
29 August 2006

The Vietnamese Cong Thanh Cement Factory is scheduled to be operational in August 2008. This is the third cement factory being invested in Thanh Hoa province. Bim Son and Nghi Son cement factories have also been carrying out their plans to expand production so that by 2010, total cement production capacity of Thanh Hoa will reach 10-11Mt a year.

25 years ago, together with Hoang Thach Cement Factory in northern Hai Duong province, Bim Son Cement Factory in Thanh Hoa province was built with support from the former Soviet Union. The factory was equipped with wet technology and had an annual capacity of 1.2Mt of cement.

The province is now calling for investors to build more large and medium-sized cement factories and also upgrade and expand production capacity of the two available cement plants of Bim Son and Nghi Son.

Cong Thanh Cement Factory is also located in Tinh Gia district. The factory is invested by a stock company with a total investment capital of VND 926 billion for the first phase. It has a capacity of 2.8Mt of cement a year. During the construction process, the company has received great support from the Vietnam Cement Corporation and Thanh Hoa functional agencies, said Mr Nguyen Cong Ly, president of the company’s management board.

Nghi Son Cement Company is currently investing US $240 million to increase its capacity from the current 2.2 million tonnes of cement a year to 4.4 million tonnes.

The Bim Son Cement Company has also been pouring investment to build another new factory with a capacity of 2 million tonnes a year. The new factory is scheduled to be operational by late 2008 or early 2009.

Thus, currently there are three cement factories in Thanh Hoa province. Both three factories are pooling efforts to increase their production capacity so as to turn Thanh Hoa into a centre of construction material production.
