Cement Company petitions senate over closure, Nigeria
17 July 2006

The Ibeto Cement Company, has sent a petition to the Senate, accusing the Federal Government of complicities in the closure of its cement bagging plant.

The petition, signed by the company’s Chairman, Chief Cletus Ibeto, and copied to the House of Representatives Speaker, as well as the various caucuses of both the Senate and House, the company alleged that the Federal Government has further “denied us the right to discharge six vessels with about 180,000t of bulk cement.”

Ibeto said the company legally imported the bulk cement “and made all necessary payments, including import duty,” adding that enormous “moral crimes have been perpetrated against us in favour of certain favourites of the powers that be."
