26 June 2006

The Vietnam National Cement Corporation (VNCC) will accelerate its expansion of some cement plants to meet the increasing demand, a VNCC official said.  The target plants include Hoang Thach 3, But Son 2 and Bim Son in the northern region and Ha Tien I and II in the southern region, VCC General Director Le Van Chung said.

According to the General Director, Vietnam’s demand for cement is estimated to increase by 8-10 percent between now and 2010. Currently, the country is capable of producing 29Mt of cement and 19Mt of clinker.

The Ministry of Construction has recently asked the VNCC to accelerate the tempo of construction of cement plants so as to increase the country’s annual output to 50Mt by 2010, General Director Chung said.
