Bazel to reorganise cement business
14 June 2006

LLC Bazel (Basic Element) Russia has reorganised its cement business in a separate division and will develop it as independent line of business, managing director of Bazel for construction and construction materials Artur Markaryan has said. The official was quoted that the company is considering construction of two cement plants: in the Krasnoyarsk region and the Ryazan region. Ryazanskiy plant will be based at a large lime deposit and the capacity will be over 3Mta cement. The second plant of over 1Mta will be organized at the Achinsk alumina plant (the Krasnoyarsk region), affiliated to RUSAL. The company has already been in talks with Sinoma, China about equipment supply and funding options.

Bazel will also consider buying Novoroscement. In 2005 this cement complex on Russia’s Black Sea coast produced 3.5Mt. Novoroscement owns three plants in Krasnodar region: Proletariy, October and Pervomayskiy, which has the capacity to produce about 5Mt of cement per year. Novoroscement also accounts for 90 per cent of Russian cement exports. The cement strategy of Bazel envisages the growth of its combined cement output to 9Mta, if it completes the Novoroscement purchase. (Vedomosti reports).
