Cement plant faces court over dust cloud
26 April 2006

Rugby Cement faces being prosecuted for an incident which led to homes and cars being covered in a thick layer of grit and dust. Cemex bosses are set to face magistrates for a dust cloud which spewed from its factory in Lawford Road, Rugby on October 14. The company has been charged by the Environment Agency with two offences under the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000. No date has been fixed for the court appearance.

Today’s announcement comes just days after another fall-out covered homes on Friday and days after pressure group Rugby In Plume called for legal action against the plant for illegal dust emissions. October’s fall-out was the fourth in seven months from the plant, following similar incidents the previous month, and in March and April this year.
