Romanian market records sizeable gains

The Romanian cement market grew 30 per cent on the year in terms of value in 2005, reaching Euro 400m and rose 10 per cent year-on-year in terms of volume to 6.1Mt, according to estimates of main players, it was reported on April 20, 2006.  The cement market will continue to expand in 2006 at a similar rate. 
 
Cement consumption in the country increased by 10 per cent in 2005 compared to 2004 to between 275kg and 300kg per capita, while the average price rose to between Euro 60-65 per tonne, compared to an average of Euro 52 per tonne noted in 2004
 
Lafarge Romcim owns three cement plants in Romania, in Medgidia, Hoghiz and Targu Jiu, while HeidelbergCement has local cement plants in Fieni, Bicaz and Deva, and Holcim in Alesd and Turda.
