Venezuela to sign cement supply contract

Venezuela to sign cement supply contract
07 April 2006

The Venezuelan housing ministry plans to sign a supply contract with Mexican Cementos Mexicanos (Cemex), the head of the ministry, Luis Figueroa, said in a statement on April 5, 2006.  The additional cement supply to Venezuela will allow it to better meet growing domestic demand and to stabilise prices. Venezuela is also studying the possibility to optimise its cement production, which currently supplies 40 per cent of the cement used in the country. According to Figueroa, the country has sufficient capacity to meet its entire local demand.  Venezuela also plans to import 500,000t of cement from Cuba.
