Protest against Carib Cement called off

Protest against Carib Cement called off
17 March 2006

A protest planned for Thursday against Caribbean Cement Company’s expansion project was called off. It was organised by the Jamaica Labour Party and was expected to involve residents of communities surrounding Caribbean Cement Company’s Rockfort plant. The residents are reportedly upset that the company is going ahead with the expansion without consulting them.

Member of Parliament for Western St. Thomas James Robertson says the protest has been postponed due to the mounting problems facing Caribbean Cement Company. The official launch of the expansion project is scheduled to take place Thursday afternoon.
