09 February 2006

Arabian Cement Company (ACC) said in late January 2006 it would launch a feasibility study on the possibility to set up a cement plant in Jordan.  The project is to be carried out jointly with an unnamed Jordanian investment company. The plant will produce grey and white Portland cement with a projected annual capacity of up to 2Mta. No financial details regarding the project were disclosed.

In December 2005, ACC started an expansion project at its plant in Rabigh, southwestern Saudi Arabia, for the launch of an additional production unit with a daily capacity of 7000 tonnes.  ACC posted a net profit of 252 mln Saudi riyals ($67.2m) for the first nine months of 2005, down 3.5 per cent year-on-year.
