Reports have surfaced that Trinidad Cement Limited the parent company of Jamaica’s Caribbean Cement Company is also grappling with a shortage of supplies. A report in the Trinidad and Tobago’s Express newspaper says producers in the twin-island’s premixed concrete sector are calling on the Government to immediately remove all tariffs on imported cement as the current shortage of supplies facing Trinidad Cement is have a crippling effect on the construction industry. The shortage of supplies has been linked to the recent day and a half shutdown of TCL, as a result of industrial accidents experienced at the company. News of the cement shortage at TCL comes a week after Caribbean Cement announced that it would have to import supplies to ease the major shortage which has severely affected Jamaica’s construction industry.
