All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA)’s Vice Chairman, Babar Bashir told that currently 18Mt of cement was being produced annually. He told that the mounting demand of cement in general and the upcoming huge earthquake reconstruction works in particular would give a tremendous boost to cement production in the country doubling in next 3/4 years. Elaborating he said that Attock, Lucky, D. G. Khan, Maple Leaf and Pioneer cement factories intend to double their production by either expanding their existing capacities or by installing new plants.

Babar Bashir told that the demand for cement was swelling by 15 /20 per cent annually. He revealed that cement has not been imported thus far since lifting of duty on cement import, as it was difficult to import cement at a rate less than the local prices.
