The NSW Government has approved the construction of a $25m upgrade of a cement mill in the Southern Highlands. The upgrade of the Blue Circle cement mill at New Berrima will enable it to meet state-wide demand for cement products. The Minister for Planning, Frank Sartor, says the mill will also help strengthen the Southern Highlands’ economy.

"This is good news for the Southern Highlands, good news for Berrima, a $25m investment that’ll provide 50 jobs during construction and 142 jobs thereafter," he said.

"It makes the mill more efficient, it makes it more economical, safeguards jobs and we’ve also imposed about 45 conditions to protect local amenities."
