India Gujarat floods stop production

Heavy rains over the past week in the industrialized western Indian state of Gujarat have halted operations of some companies, but major financial impact is unlikely, say analysts.  Ultratech Cement said its plant in Amreli stopped producing cement on June 29. "The plant is still under water but production is likely to resume soon," a company spokesperson said, adding that Grasim’s textile units had not been affected. Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. India’s third-largest cement maker by capacity, said three factories in Gujarat continue to operate normally despite heavy rains.
