Qatar is facing severe shortage of cement supplies. This is hampering several construction projects and delaying projects completion. Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced the setting up of a special panel to study the problem and take steps to resolve the problem. This follows the meeting between businesses and ministry officials. The cement shortage is also compounded by the fact that there is delay in imports due to the rainy season. Minister of Economy and Commerce, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Ahmad Al Thani assured that the country would soon overcome the cement shortage.

Qatar National Cement Company Senior Official, Salem Butti Al Nuaimi also assured to resolve the cement shortage crisis. Qatar National Cement Company produces 5000tpd of cement and currently imports 2500tpd. Generally the problem occurs whenever there is delay in imports. Some businessmen blame Qatar National Cement Company for the shortage. Businesses are demanding more imports, as domestic manufacturers are unable to cope up with the increased cement demand. Concrete block makers are also facing economic losses due to the cement shortage.
