Manitowoc unit lands cement barge contract
22 April 2005

The Manitowoc Co. Inc. said that its Manitowoc Marine Group has been awarded a contract to build an unmanned, self-discharging, bulk cement barge for American Transport Leasing Inc. The 460-foot-by-70-foot vessel will be built at the company’s Bay Shipbuilding Co. facility in Sturgeon Bay. Financial terms of the contract with American Transport, Dearborn, Mich., were not disclosed.

This new bulk cement barge is virtually identical to Integrity, an unmanned, self-unloading vessel that Manitowoc built in 1995. The new barge will be built and classed for ocean service, but will operate on the Great Lakes servicing 15 US terminals. Vessel construction is scheduled to begin next month, with a projected delivery during the second quarter of 2006.
