Iran’s cement industry is striving to increase its production capacity by utilizing modern technologies, said a senior cement industry official on Tuesday, stressing that the private sector is taking a bigger share in the important sector’s development programmes. Houshang Adhami, a member of the Board of Directors of Iran’s Cement Association, told ISNA that the association is supporting projects to increase the production capacity of cement factories, adding that the giant Abyek facility has recorded a remarkable increase in its output capacity from 3500 to 8500tpd.

Some 38 factories nationwide produced 26.7Mt of cement during March-December 2004, registering an eight per cent increase against the figure for the corresponding period the previous year. Cement exports reached 1.2Mt in the same period, also showing positive growth.
