Cemex Costa Rica has bought local concrete companies Durocret and BC de Heredia, local press reported.  As part of its expansion and growth process that kicked off in the mid-1990s with the 95 per cent purchase of Cementos del Pacifico, the company took over concrete plants owned by Durocret and BC de Heredia at San Rafael de Alajuela, Limon, Guanacaste and Puntarenas.  Cemex bought 100 per cent of the assets of the two companies, where a total of some 70 employees work.

In Costa Rica, Cemex produces about 850,000tpa of cement, 75 per cent of which is sold in bags. It shares the market in equal parts with the number-two cement maker worldwide, Swiss company Holcim.
