Brunei to import cement to check on its rising prices
09 February 2005

Brunei will again import cement to stabilise the price of the commodity and ensure its continuous supply for the interest and development of the construction industry in the country.

The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources through the Department of  Brunei Industrial Development Body disclosed this decision yesterday.

The types of cement that are to be imported must be of high quality and must comply with the Brunei Standard.

Towards this end, would-be importers of the commodity will only be allowed to import cement of grade 62.5, which is the standard permitted by the government of His Majesty.

In order to ensure that importers meet the requirements for the importation of cement to the country, the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development will be monitoring the types and quality of cement imported.
