Cement to cost more in South India

Major cement companies have hiked the price of cement in South India by Rs 8-10 for a 50 kg bag. In Tamil Nadu, the price hike was about Rs eight while in Kerala, the prices have been increased by an average of Rs 10 per 50 kg bag, according to industry officials. India Cement, Ultratech, Grasim, Ramco and Dalmia Cement had increased the prices in the recent weeks, they said. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the prices have been hiked by an average of Rs 10-12 per 50 kg bag.

Following the hike, the price of 50 kg bag cement in Tamil Nadu stands at an average of Rs 165-170, they said, adding that in Kerala, the prices is about Rs 180 per bag. The price hike in South India follows a similar hike in North India recently. Different companies have different strategies. But on an average, all companies have hiked the prices by Rs 8-12 per bag in South India, an official in India Cements said.
