Polysius wins US$308m cement plant bid
11 January 2005

Cynce de Oriente, a 100 per cent owned unit of Mexican cement maker La Cruz Azul, has awarded a Euro 235m contract to Germany’s Polysius to build a cement plant in Palmeritos, in the central Mexican state of Puebla.  The 3000tpd-capacity plant is slated to start operations in November 2006.  This turnkey order is one of the largest received in the history of Polysius AG.  The plant consists of high-tech components from the raw material quarry right up to the cement loading system, including comprehensive factory automation for ecologically compatible and economical cement production.

Polysius is constructing this new plant in Palmeritos, 70 km south-west of Puebla - the capital of the state with the same name and ’Mexico’s colonial treasure chamber at the foot of three volcanoes’. It was awarded just a few months after the commissioning of a 3000tpd cement clinker production plant which was also constructed by Polysius on a turnkey basis in Aguascalientes, Mexico, for Cementos y Concretos Nacionales (also a 100 percent subsidiary of Cruz Azul).
