Vietnam likely to lack coal for cement production
24 November 2004

Vietnam will need 1.3Mt of coal next year, but it is in danger of serious shortage of the material, said officials from Vietnam Cement Corporation (VNCC). The scarcity is attributed to the increasing demand for the coal amongst VNCC’s members and numerous difficulties in supply from Vietnam Coal Corporation (Vinacoal). As of mid-November, Cement Transport and Material Company, in charge of supplying the material for VNCC’s members, has provided as many as 596,500t of coal while its initially planned figure was only 590,000t for this whole year. Meanwhile Vietnam has been exporting coal to China and Japan.
