ACC and Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd (GACL) overcame the transporters’ strike to increase their cement despatches during the month of August. However, Aditya Birla group companies Grasim and UltraTech Cement were adversely affected by the transporters’ strike. ACC reported a 5.6 per cent increase in cement despatch to 12.46 lakh tonne in last month compared with 11.80 lakh tonne in the corresponding month last year. GACL too reported a 6.1 per cent increase to 10.08 lakh tonne from 9.50 lakh tonne in August last year. Grasim reported 4.9 per cent dip in cement despatches to 9.4 lakh tonne while its group company UltraTech Cement registered 11.13 per cent decline to 7.77 lakh tonne. Grasim figures were inclusive of that of Shri Digvijay Cement Company, while UltraTech figures include those o f Narmada Cement Company.
