Holcim Romania officially inaugurated on Friday the most modern cement production line in Romania at Alesd plant, under a €70 million investment. The most ambitious investment plan of Holcim Romania was to fully refurbish and modernize the cement production at its Alesd plant having a capacity of 3000tpd of clinker per day.

“The upgrade for the Alesd cement plant took 2.5 years under a Euro 70m investment and the investments we are making are a reflection of our aim for sustainable development comprising of long term economic profitability, environment protection and social responsibility,” said Kurt Habersatter, General Manager of Holcim (Romania) S.A.

The modernization works at the production line in Alesd – which had not been operational for the previous 12 years – included all departments of the Alesd factory. Starting from the mining of raw materials, crushing and milling, the clinker burning and cement milling as well as storage and dispatch facilities have been modernized. A new online raw material analyzer and a preblending storage hall were installed. Together with a new automation system this ensures full control over the production process, product quality and emissions. The laboratory has also been retooled for the same purpose.

Top priority projects were implemented in order to reduce electric and thermal energy consumption, to reduce emissions, increase work safety while meeting high quality standards. Investments for environment (including CO2 emission reduction) amount to Euro8m while investments in energy saving measures count for Euro7m.
