Construction begins on cement plant

Vietnam: work began on the Hung Vuong Cement Plant in the northern mid-land province of Phu Tho¹s Thanh Ba District on Sunday. The VND1 trillion (US$64m) plant, which was designed to have capacity of 2500 tonnes of clinker per day, is equipped with various advanced technologies. The plant is scheduled to turn out about 910,000t of cement annually and is expected to go into operation by the end of 2005. The plant is jointly invested by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation, the Phu Tho Cement Company and the Viet Nam Machinery Installation Corporation.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the ground breaking ceremony held on Sunday. Dung said the project is part of the national cement development strategy to meet the demand of national construction and development.
