JSC Katavsky Plant (locat6ed in the Chelyabinsk region) has resumed operation and plans to boost production to 1Mta. On Jan 24, 2004 two out of four kilns were put back into operation and 3500 tons of clinker was produced. After purchasing the plant with companies affiliated with Eurocement the plant’s debt to budget, fuel and electric power suppliers was restructured. Arrears of wage which has not been paid since June 2003 was completely paid off. In 1Q2004 the plant plans to produce 180,000t of cement, up 38,000t from the figure for the whole of 2003. The plant’s design capacity is 1.55Mta. Since 1990 when 1.52Mt of cement was produced, the plant’s production has continued to decrease, which resulted in the production of only 142,000t in 2003.
