US shipments rise 14% YoY, Jan-July 2012

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for the year through July were 44.4Mt, up by about 14%, data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) showed.

The leading producing states in July were Texas, California, Missouri, Michigan, and Florida, in descending order and accounted for about 43 per cent of total output. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Illinois, in descending order) received about 35 per cent of the July total shipments.

Total shipments for July 2012 were 7.3Mt, representing a seven per cent increase on shipments in July 2011.

Clinker production totaled 6.3Mt in July, nearly 11 per cent higher than output in July 2011. Production for the year through July was 38Mt, up by 11 per cent. The leading clinker producing States in July were Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama, and Pennsylvania, in descending order.

July 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 816,000t were 33 per cent higher than those in July 2011. Imports for the year through July were 3.93Mt, up by almost 13 per cent.
