PPC prepares for start Riebeeck modernisation
19 November 2012

With the environmental authorisation by the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning for phase two of its Riebeeck modernisation in place, South Africa’s PPC is one step closer to replacing two of the old cement kilns with a new five-stage preheater. The project will increase capacity in the Western Cape by around 50% up to 2016.

The upgrade is part of the company’s drive to modernise its production facilities, positioning PPC as a competitive, energy-efficient cement producer that complies with expected changes to the country’s environmental legislation.

Recently, it completed the first phase which saw a ZAR280m upgrade of De Hoek works near Piketberg, improving the plant’s environmental and thermal performance.
