US shipments rise 10% from Jan-October 2012

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for October 2012 were about 8.1Mt, almost 10 per cent greater than shipments in October 2011. Shipments for the year through October were 67.6Mt, up by about 10 per cent, latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows

The leading producing States in October were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, in descending order) received about 36 per cent of the October total shipments. Clinker production totaled about 6.4Mt in October, about 12 per cent more than output in October 2011. Production for the year through October was 56.3Mt, up by about nine per cent. The  leading clinker-producing states in October were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida, and Alabama, in descending order.

October 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 635,000t were nine per cent less than those in October 2011. Imports for the year through October were 5.87Mt, up by about eight per cent.
