Industry: Vietnam Vicem sells 20.04Mt of cement and clinker in 2012

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the leading cement producer in the country, sold 20.4Mt of cement and clinker in 2012, rising by 8.8 per cent from a year earlier and fulfilling 96.4 per cent of its full-year target.

Of the sum, 19.24Mt of cement and clinker was sold in domestic market, up 11.9 per cent YoY, while 801,000t of cement and clinker was exported, down 35.9 per cent YoY.

In 2012, Vicem produced 15.02Mt of clinker, up 3.8 per cent YoY, fulfilling 95.6 per cent of the whole-year target. The corporation’s cement output, meanwhile, fell by 3.1 per cent YoY to 15.57Mt, fulfilling 82.4 per cent of the full-year target.

Vicem made a net profit of VND660trn (US$31.6bn) in 2012, rising by 36 per cent YoY, despite the plummet in domestic demand and economic difficulties.

In 2013, Vicem plans to produce 19-20Mt of cement and 15-16Mt of clinker, aiming to fulfill this year’s revenue target of VND30trn and make a minimum profit of VND500bn.

Vicem held 34 per cent of the domestic market share in 2012, up 1.6 percentage points from end-2011, while the joint ventures made up 29 per cent.
