Cementos Progreso begins building San Gabriel works
22 July 2013

Cementos Progreso started construction on its new plant in San Juan Sacatepéquez, 30km of the capital, in northeastern Guatemala.

It is expected that construction of the 2.2Mta plant will take three years and is scheduled to come online in 2017. The project includes reforestation programmes. On a 836ha site, the plant covers an area of 64ha with the remainder left as green belt. Moreover, it will also support the municipality’s development plan and will include a 14km link road between the plant and the CA-1 highway.

The works will bring Cementos Progreso’s total production capacity to 5Mta, more than sufficient to supply the Guatemalan market demand of around 3.8Mta.
