ARM Cement said it plans to start construction of an 8000tpd plant in Kitui county, Kenya in 2014.

“We plan to start construction of the Kitui plant late next year. It is a major development for us,” Pradeep Paunrana, ARM’s chief executive told the Business Daily in an interview.

The company said it will raise up to US$300m (KES25.5bn) to fund new plants over the next five years, including the new Kitui facility.

The company had previously said it is committed to building cement capacity for the long term, with government infrastructure spending in Kenya on ports and roads and a housing deficit of some 440,000 units likely to boost demand for the foreseeable future.
