US cement shipments rise in February

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2014 were 4.7Mt, up slightly from the level in February 2013 reports the US Geological Survey. Shipments for the year through February rose to 9.6Mt. The leading Portland cement-producing states in February were: Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states received about 52 per cent of the February total shipments and included: Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana, in descending order. 

Clinker production totalled about 4Mt in February 2014, up by nearly five per cent from the output in February 2013. Production for the year through February amounted to 8.6Mt, up by about six per cent. The leading clinker-producing states in February were: Texas, California, Missouri, Alabama, and Florida, in descending order.

Masonry cement shipments in February 2014 of about 134,000t were up by almost three per cent from those of February 2013. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, were: Florida, Texas, California, Alabama, and North Carolina, and these received about 65 per cent of February’s total shipments.

US imports of cement and clinker in February 2014 totalled 386,000t, 22 per cent more than those in February 2013. Imports for the year through February were up slightly at 793,000t.
