Sri Lanka: Lafarge Mahaweli concludes Health & Safety month
02 October 2014

Lafarge Mahaweli Cement concluded its annual Health & Safety month recently, with a number of activities held at their factory premises located within the Colombo port, Sri Lanka.

The theme of this year's safety month was 'My actions, My impact: Our Progress' with special emphasis on zero accidents.

During the month several training programs were carried out for employees, contractors, drivers and other stakeholders with external speakers within the industry sharing insights into road safety, work at height, ergonomics etc, to underline its safety message.

Commenting on this year's theme, Lafarge Sri Lanka Head of Health & Safety Athula Karunanayake, said: "The way we manage risks, our behaviours at work and at home are all important factors to take into consideration. It is only natural that the 2014 Health & Safety Month is focused on personal ownership. Each one of us has a role to play through our individual actions, and help improve Health & Safety within the entire Group. All the activities we undertook were along these lines and the photo story competition we launched is a special way of using the visual medium to get the point across."
