MP visits Lafarge Tarmac Dolyhir and Gore quarries, UK
02 February 2015

Lafarge Tarmac welcomed Roger Williams CBE Member of Parliament for Brecon and Radnorshire, to Dolyhir and Gore Quarries to understand more about the economic and community benefits to his local constituency.

As joint chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Minerals, Mr Williams is well versed on the importance of minerals to the national economy and the local teams were delighted to show him around.
Dolyhir and Gore Quarries have a long history of mineral extraction, dating back over 100 years. Currently 119 employees are based at the quarries, with more additional non-direct employees, such as hauliers.

Paul Hopkins, Head of Estates Central and Wales, said: “We were delighted to have had the opportunity to show Roger Williams CBE MP around the quarries and discuss the important role they play in the local community.

“The quarries not only provide local jobs and contribute to the national economy, they directly supply local projects with materials and ensure that local infrastructure is developed”.

Roger Williams CBE MP said: “I was very pleased to visit the Lafarge Tarmac quarries in my constituency.  They are very professionally run and aim to make the best use of all material taken from the quarries. I am very pleased that these quarries provide over 100 jobs and more people are being taken on, on a regular basis. The output is increasing and has difficulty in keeping up with demand so I was pleased to meet apprentices and a young graduate who has taken up employment recently. Apprentices are very valuable and I commend Lafarge Tarmac for employing them.

"The quarries supply aggregate asphalt and minerals for cement making and have high safety and environmental standards which are important for their employees but also for the people living near a quarry. I wish the quarries very well in the future”.
