JK Lakshmi Cement has been granted environmental clearance to set up a 1.5Mta grinding plant in the east Indian state of Bihar. The project, to be located in Kishanganj district, also involves the production of 1000m3 per day of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks and a 10MW diesel generator (DG) set.

"Based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee, the Environment Ministry has given the environment clearance [EC] to J K Lakshmi Cement's proposed project in Bihar," the Economic Times of India quoted a senior Environment Ministry official as saying.

The EC has been given with certain conditions, the official added. These include the development of a greenbelt in at least a 33 per cent area in and around the cement plant. It must also install air monitoring devices and emissions control measures, as well as reduce the impact raw materials and final product transportation on the surrounding environment.
