Shailendra Chouksey, whole-time director of JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd, has been unanimously elected as the new president of the Cement Manufacturers' Association of India (CMA).

Mr Chouksey previously held the position of vice-president of the association. The CMA elects a new president after every two years. In his new role, Mr Chouksey replaces OP Puranmalka, managing director of UltraTech Cement.

With nearly 40 years of industry experience, Mr Chouksey has a PhD in managerial economics. He has an MBA in marketing from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, and carries a post-graduate degree in physics.

Mr Chouksey said that given the cement sector going through a challenging phase, his main focus would be to bring about effective collaboration between the cement industry and various stakeholders. "As the newly-elected president of the CMA, my priority is to device methods to work with different stakeholders, including the Government of India to spur the cement demand," he said.
