Plans to set up a 500tpd cement plant near Jorabat, Assam, India, have received the support of local residents. The Pollution Control Board Assam has conducted a public hearing in the premises of Ambher LP School at 12th Mile, near Jorabat, on the issue of setting up of a proposed cement plant.

The majority of the local people and residents supported establishment of the works on the condition that the plant would contract staff locally, reported the Assam Tribune.

Another condition given by the villagers was that the pollution control system of the factory must be efficiently and regularly monitored. The factory authorities have affirmed that they would abide by the conditions of the villagers.
