15 July 2016

Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, laid the first stone of a cement plant operated by the Industrial Group of Cements of Algeria (GICA) on Thursday in Sigus (Oum El Bouaghi).

The Prime Minister said that large investments for the construction of cement plants across the country had been made available in an attempt to contribute to sustainable economic growth. He noted that Algeria must begin exporting cement by 2018 or 2019.

The new plant is located approximately 5km south of the town of Sigus and has a planned capacity of 2.2Mta. It is scheduled to be built in 31 months, going into production in February 2019. The budget for this project is DZD51bn (US$461.9m)
