Moroccan cement demand stable in November

Cement sales in Morocco experienced a 3.5 per cent drop YoY to 1.2Mt in November 2016, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Policy.

In regional terms, the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region saw demand drop 15.7 per cent to 145,574t and in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra sales were down 6.8 per cent to 147,023t while Souss Massa noted an 8.3 per cent rise in sales to 111,544t. In Casablance-Settat sales fell 2.8 per cent to 267,095t and in Oriental they dropped 3.8 per cent to 119,677t.


For the first 11 months of 2016, domestic deliveries edged up 0.45 per cent to 13.03Mt when compared with the equivalent period in the previous year.

Cement consumption in the 11M16 in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region fell 2.9 per cent YoY to 1,689,149t but the Oriental area saw sales largely stable, up 0.1 per cent to 1,245,643t. The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra market expanded by one per cent to 1,624,934t while Souss Massa noted a 2.1 per cent advance to 1,099,617. Casablanca-Settat reported sales were up 3.9 per cent to 2,942,646t.
